Please, just one more oil boom …

Draw! is an occasional editorial cartoon by Greg Kearney.

Among the most defining aspects of life in Wyoming in 2015 was the crash of the oil boom. With the price of oil trending at about $100 per barrel for several years, drillers steadily staked out the southern Powder River Basin for a major play, and by 2014 the industry was set to drill 500 new wells annually — until the fall of 2014 when the price of oil began to slip. The slide continued during all of 2015. The oil bust, along with a depressed coal mining industry, will prompt difficult budgeting decisions in the upcoming legislative session in February.

Poor ol’ Wyoming. This is just another little bump in the road that makes It a great and exciting place to live.

This is but a sanitized version of the ubiquitous Alaska bumper sticker: “Oh, lord, send us one more oil boom, and we promise not to piss this one away…….”
