The Roosevelt Fire turns the sun a deep red Sunday evening in this view from the Hoback Rim above Bondurant.

Hunters reported the fire Saturday afternoon and it grew to cover more than 30,000 acres and consume one structure in Hoback Ranches by Wednesday night. More than 250 firefighters are fighting the blaze that has caused officials to evacuate at least three Sublette County subdivisions. Two Hundred thirty homes were evacuated, the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office said in an update.

Other residents near the Hoback Rim have been put on alert that they may be asked to leave at a moment’s notice. The Bridger-Teton National Forest has closed a significant area around the fire. Highway 191 between Boudurant and Daniel Junction could be closed if Rim residents are evacuated.

The cause of the blaze is unknown. It could burn until the end of October, according to an estimate posted at an interagency fire website. Updates are available there and on the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
