Energy policy: Take it from Wyoming

In reality, the question we must wrestle with is how much environmental degradation are we willing to accept on our public lands and in the air we breath? It appears that Wyoming’s elected leaders do not want to have that conversation. Instead, Gov. Mead and his fellow Republican governors put out a “state-centric” energy policy for the entire nation — a hubristic approach to energy policy for a nation that the world looks to for leadership.

Despite the strong current fiscal outlook and overall increased spending and focus on mental health care in recent years, providers and patient advocates say Wyoming continues to face formidable challenges in serving the state's residents, especially those in crisis who require acute care and patients living in remote, rural areas.

Former Sen. Alan Simpson has a history of colorful comments and pushing to overhaul Social Security. So it was no surprise when senior citizen groups locked horns with him during his work as co-chair of a national deficit reduction panel. But Simpson said he enjoys sparring with extremists on both ends of the political spectrum, and presented a plan that treats Social Security as a standalone issue, separate from deficit reduction efforts.
