The Sage Grouse has consistently hammered the “Tea Party.” However, there is no actual Tea Party. It is only a concept, but nonetheless deserving of some hammering. There are many scared people out there, watching the dollar plummet and jobs go to Asia, freaked out about Obama and Pelosi spending tax dollars to achieve prosperity, viewing the health care bill as a massive government power grab. And there is a bunch of ambitious neo-politicians who find it all too easy to punch those fear buttons (a 12 year old could pull this off, or any evangelist) and watch those internet fundraising dollars roll in.
Here in the USA, we worry about boomers placing massive demands on Social Security and Medicare. Ten thousand Boomers per day will retire, for the next 19 years. Starting NOW!! That is 3.6 million retirees per year, times 19. Those soldiers were very happy to come home in the 1950s. However, many of them are obese. Obesity may do here what smoking will do in China; thin out the retirees.
Former Sen. Alan Simpson has a history of colorful comments and pushing to overhaul Social Security. So it was no surprise when senior citizen groups locked horns with him during his work as co-chair of a national deficit reduction panel. But Simpson said he enjoys sparring with extremists on both ends of the political spectrum, and presented a plan that treats Social Security as a standalone issue, separate from deficit reduction efforts.
